Time out in 15 seconds Empty
PostSubject: Time out in 15 seconds   Time out in 15 seconds EmptySat Jun 18, 2011 10:37 pm

Okay, so I've been having a problem when trying to host or connect to a game using Gameranger on AoM. I own the game, but am playing with a friend that pirated it so I have to use gameranger. I used to be able to connect, and host games just fine, both with 2 people and with 3, and they would have no issues connecting to me. Now, whenever they try to connect to me/I try to connect to them, they get a "time out 15 seconds" countdown, which is followed by an error stating that a game could not be found at the given address. I have forwarded my UDP 16000, however when checking it using the tool here: it still tells me it is closed. I have forwarded ports before, when hosting a minecraft server, which required a single port to be opened. When I attempt to check the port using the tool at the link earlier and it says its closed, but when I open the minecraft server up it says the port is open. I have an idea as to why I cant play AoM, but I don't know how to fix it.

My idea is that my router only opens the port when something I am doing needs it open, but not when an outside person needs access, like when someone tries to connect to me in AoM, so when someone tries to connect the port stays closed and they get the error that no game is available.

I'll provide any extra information as necessary, but please, I need help here, and haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.

If you get timeouts with everyone, thats pretty bad, probably the forwarding issue you mentioned. Could be also terrible lag, who knows.
Do you have issues with other games too?

this is the only game i have issues with, i can play on battlefront 2 just fine. my internet is pretty fast, same with the people I play with, so I don't think its the lag. Do you have any idea on what I should try to do in order to fix this?

Try upgrading your router firmware, then do one more try on port forwarding. You may aswell want to try stock settings, but only do that if YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF. You may lose your internet connection if you dont do it properly lol.

I think I may have figured it out, with Vegito's help. It wasnt that I had hamachi, it was that my friends had hamachi and they never turned it off. They just installed it recently to play terraria together and I didn't know that they had. I asked em to turn it off and and try connecting and it worked. Thanks.

That's the good answer because 15s countdown is due to bad IP.
Check your IP in the top left corner of AOM when you host a game via gameranger.

If it's different of your public IP (whatismyip.com), then go to your windows networks panel and disable the tap using the bad IP (it could be hamachi or a VPN tap).

It also may come from a private IP (given by your router) different from 192.168.... then gameranger thinks that IP is not the private IP but the public one.

PS : I've written it useless because I had not seen your problem was solved aether... lol
