All right.. here are few tips that can help you improve your gameplay depending on how effectively you may use them . I found and collected these when i was new to aomt and trying to learn it ( i am still learning
* some shortcuts i've used here :
TC = towncentre
HP = Hitpoint
FB= Forward base
TA=Throwing axemanTips to save your time and get good startup :
1) Just before the game launch when you wud see your 'red' dot goes 'green' , hit 'H' and 'V' 'V' 'V' 'V' 'V' . i.e 'H' = hotkey for selecting TC ,'V' = hotkey for training villager (unless you have changed the hotkeys) . This = save ur time as you have ordered 5 villagers to build before the game even starts.
2) Flag your scout (for finding him fast,as u'll need him again and again) and Shift+Right click his waypath . (Dont just Right click them again and again
3)If you are using autoqueue then Don't have more than 1 villager in the queue at any one time.It will only waste resourses .
4) Don't let ur TC stay idle even for 2 seconds. (1 sec is all right
5) Pigs are cows are not only for slaying down.use them as scouts too for revealing areas behind ur town. (so as to relieve your scout form doing extra running and getting tired
6) If villis are on one side of tc and they need to get to opposite side ,then garrison them inside TC and ungarrison them to the side u want them to appear. This = saves time that is precious.
7) If deers or whatever hunt is near to ur TC ,use TC fire to kill them. This = saves times and relieve villies doing some sins
8 ) Never put mining/storage camps right at the goldpile.Same with oxcarts,bcos they block villies from collecting resources faster. .Those 100+ recources you gather more in 3 minutes from proper building placement/ecomanagement does add up
9) Dont even think about rushing expert players . they will rip you apart (unless you are of same level as him).
Tips about Raiding enemy's economy :
1) set ur pegasis or raven or scout to 'Patrol function
' to enemy goldmines and food. That function is there for a reason so sometime try to respect that function.
2)when u want to see if hes hunting somewhere click an animal and see hp, if hp bar exists but is empty then hes hunting there, if the deer has no hp bar its been eated already, if its full hp bar its still alive.
Or u can just see if ur raiders can attack the hunts so its faster than looking hp bars also villagers see if wood is cutted down or mine is empty.
3) look at the forests around his base, when a tree flashes white, it means its been cut down.
4)select a vill and then look at his first gold mine, if the pick axe doesnt appear then the gold mine is done, same as berries ( so assume that he is collecting resourses outside his town)
also if youre just looking around the map you sometimes see if someone is building somewhere because the ground flattens.
5)Get 2-3 raiding groups.and set flags to them.
6)When raiding, you should look at your raiders every 5 seconds, check the automap every 5 seconds, and manage your eco. It just takes 0.5 seconds to double tap 1 and set a new right click and then go back to eco/macromanagement, but it can change the difference between a game.
7)when u find his vills and he runs away, send you raiders as a group to a gather point in front of the vills so that they can cut them off and disturb their pathing.
8)Also dont lose sight of your objective when you raid. You do it for a reason: to gain economy advantage.
There is absolutely no advantage when you perfectly corner 4 vills and slaughter them all, when u lose 2 vills elsewhere (opponents raid also) and "forgot" to make 3 more vills from tc, while microing your raiders. Tip for using Attack command:
you can also hold alt and click to move , units on attack-move will attack anything in range but will attack units first, vils second, buildings third.
so if you do this while in the middle of the opponents buildings, your units will ignore his buildings, attack his units, and then if there are none left, kill vils, and then start attacking buildings.
and if a unit comes into range, your units will attack it, then go back to attacking buildings.
the danger is that someone sends a camel just running through the area - all of your units will follow it.and they all attack the same unit which sort of sucks.also pretty sure it doesnt work by HP.
Tip about what to do when your FB is under attack and you dont have unit ready to defend.
Don't worry about training times just build a unit that counters his unit , store them in your barracks/range/stable till you have a decent amount vs his men , then ungarrison them. because if ur units comes out one by one they will get killed in no time.This may also trick ur opponent to some for thinking that you dont have enough resourses to train units.Tips about Micro :
the units that have the most damage multiplier are the most important to micro. So if you can only move a few units, control your heroes first. Since heroes have the biggest multiplier, it is also important to micro your MU away from his heroes.
so microing 2 hoplites to attack a hippikon... not really worth the effort. Microing 3 peltasts to hit a gastraphetes - worth it. Also notice that hoplites are pretty good vs all units, so the 'bonus' you get by moving them by hand isn't much. But peltasts are worthless vs units like cavalry, and kill archers fast, so it is more important to micro those units. In case you dont know the term, units with bonus damage multipliers are called Hard Counters, units without or will little multipliers are called Soft Counters. Hoplites counter cav, but have no multiplier. Prodromos do get a multiplier, etc.
So the rule imo is: micro heroes and hard counters first.
Also, a tip i read years ago is important to remember: The earlier in the game it is, the more important micro is. 30 minutes into the game when both players are in mythic is not the time to focus too much on micro.
using cavalry to flank archers is good early on though. microing almost any unit is good in the early game, if you have time.
a few other things to rememember is that most archer units have a lower % chance to hit on their first attack, so focus firing all of your archers to one defender is not good. grab 3-4 archers at a time, and have them attack a unit, then repeat over and over. Focus firing all of your archers also causes 'over damage' where your archers might be sending a combined attack of 200 pierce, when the unit only has 50 hp left - which means you wasted 150 pierce damage.
put high hp units like colossus, siege towers, heliops in the front, especially if the opponent has a lot of ranged units. it forces him to micro his archers to your units manually, so if he is not paying attention, he could have 30 toxotes literally wasting their attacks on a heliop, while your hips run in unharmed and take out his tox.
some basic things are to retreat 'big' units that are being attacked by mulitple units of his
like in boat wars you pull back the boat getting shot, by the time he reacts you usually get one free shot
or when a hipikon is being attacked by 3 spearmen pull it back
another one is using high hit point units to keep his archers busy:
run a camel or hipikon back and forward behind his archers and they will autofire at it since it is the closest and strongest unit
you can pick off their archer by shift clikcing all of them with some slings or whatever
focus fire on heros, let myth units fight til they are almost dead and then retreat
special attacks from battle boars or so should be used correctly, if you see it's almost recharged dont let him use it against 1 unit but run into a group
when u have a siege tower in ur army, and ur priests are almost dead garisson them quickly
same can be done with son of osiris
always micro heros on myth units, but as soon as you see they run back go back
when u have a complete army with mixtures of cav/inf/archers and i want to retreat, select them all but ctrl click the archers out and pull back
like this ur melee troops go back but my archers can still fire a few shots as theyre usually the back of my army
you can invent loads of stuff, just make sure you dont over do it (like having 30 archers shoot one unit at a time or pulling back in a fight where it's totally not needed)
so basically it all comes down to one thing: how can i make my units do the most damage to his, while making his units do the least to my army? by sending cav to archers, microing a minotaur away from a hersir to attack an RC, pulling a ship back that is being focus fired on, or hiding TA behind trees, you are reducing the amount of damage you are receiving, and maximizing the damage you are giving out.Misc Tips :Archer Elevation Bonus
Archers get a bonus when fighting from the high ground. This bonus is 1.25x to damage, basically the same as 2 armory upgrades! Use terrain to your advantage whenever possible.Random Undocumented Mechanics
1) Podromos have an undocumented 4x damage multiplier against siege. This, combined with their cheap cost and high mobility, make them your best anti-siege force.
Btw every civ has an undocumented siege killer with biiig multiplier.
For the ones who dont know yet:
eggy= spearman , norse = raiding cavalry , atty = katapeltes , greek = prodromos
2) did u also knew villagers have 150% against towers?
3) use a villie vs cheiros! as vills get 2x bonus vs siege, cheiro count as siege
4) send units at an angle to his army (45 degrees), then pull closest ones back immediately, as he wil always target closest, gets u free few shots in ,works great in boat wars
5)have your antiarchers tabbed/on hotkey so they can attack archers in the back when your attacking
ummmmmm.... I dont remeber anything else.... If you know something then please contribute.NOTE : If your are an expert and find this post a crap then please consider that this post is only for noobs like me
