| As the title says, I've started an initiative of re-starting the very populat fan patch project. The goal is to make a patch that will balance our beloved game out sufficiently so you will be able to play any god, and also have uses for currently useless minor gods.
Now, in the coming months of work there won't be much for you to see, because testing will stay private. However when we are done, voobly will release our fan patch and make every player in the lounge download it.
I guess this would be the ultimate reason to use voobly.
Just posting this so that you all know about this.
Wish us luck, so we don't die off and split like the former balance team. | |

| I think you first have to find programmers and see what's possible to do.
Many people have already tweaked their game (UI, Shortcuts...) and know the mechanics of the game files.
After that, we could create topics here and on sanctuary to find out the best ideas people can bring to this project and rate them with an improvement-popularity/difficulty ratio.
Then, build as quickly as possible a balanced version (that's the main aim of the project) and spread it immediately. With releases, improve it step by step and include functionnalities.
BTW, voobly has already craked the game to include the report and stats upload. They have decompiled the .exe file to a source that, once compiled, works and is stable. They've probably done the same with some .dll files. You should try to get these sources. DragonQ must have a great experience, it would be great to have him in your team.

Same about god powers. Until now i can change any unit stat in a matter of seconds. For those who are lazy to check, here is the current list of changes. | Can you break this whole fanpatch into small pieces and explain. Its not like theres more than 1 way of understanding the context of a new patch but i'd be interested on hearing a more detailed info of what exactly are you doing. | |

| Hey, great job NAKA, There seems to be relevant changes but it's quite hard to quickly understand what the fan patch does and I have an idea how to present your changes : Make a table. For each unit, building, power, list the different parameters in columns and write the default (original) value and the change between brackets. And, finally use colors to bring out these changes : green if it's cheaper or better armored.., red if worse and black if there's no change. Example: Unit | Food | Wood | Gold | favor | Ulfsark | 50(+10) | 0 | 30(-10) | 0 |
Then group these units by gods or type... you have to find the best arrangement for the changes - to a unit can be compared with other units in order to reveal the usefulness and impact of the change. BTW, is there an excell spreadsheet to simulate fights with these new parameters and then accelerate the test phases? | |

well, on that site that nakamura gave, they had people posting if whether there was any mistakes or not, timaeus commented and said it was good and from what i have seen so its good so far lol | |

| think of it like this, death. try to bake a big, lavish wedding cake in an hour or two. If you just throw in a whole bunch of ingredients that you think sound right without measuring, without mixing, without this, without that, then you try and bake that.... you will end up with an atrocity, not a wedding cake.
They're throwing all these ideas into a mixing pot and plan on it just working with a little testing... No, thats not how you bake things, thats not why recipe books are prevalent, thats why it takes so long to create a new game. Now of course they're not creating a new game..... but they began this less than a week ago.... | |

| Lets trust their work and judge from the result, not from the method even if you don't agree theirs.
I would personnally be more prudent and go step by step but we don't know how they proceed and they spend a lot of time, the job can be done. BTW, it would be nice to organize testing sessions once a week (or the rate you want) to get a decent feedback.
About table, I'll try to make something if I have time and present you it naka, I think it can be an interesting tool (monitoring and summary) for this kind of project. | |
